Drew and I finally made the announcement yesterday that we are going to be parents...of a human. (Sorry Charlie) We had an appointment yesterday that would determine the rest of our lives.
Here's the back story. In July after returning from our vacation in Hilton Head, I took a pregnancy test and hooray it was positive. Well, maybe at first there wasn't jumping up and down but 4 pregnancy tests later we were excited. A trip to the doctor confirmed this fun fact and we were on our way. A few weeks later though I started having some complications and went back into the doctor for an emergency visit and ultrasound. I was told that the ultrasound didnt really show anything in the embryo sac and coupled with my other symptoms it didnt look good. At this point I was thought to be around 5 or 6 weeks. Distraught and heartbroken we told our family the sad news and we were determined that we would try again soon. I went back to the doctor a week later for a followup and ultrasound and the ultrasound tech came out and told us congratulations, she had seen a heartbeat! Wow! We were floored. Pretty sure I shed a tear. My doctor said that things had taken a turn for the better but the baby had a very low heart rate and I was put on some hormones to get the heart rate up. No exercise and no getting in the water to work were my instructions. Over the next 3 weeks I felt the usual pregnancy symptoms of nausea, fatigue and some insomnia but was really anxious to get to our appointment yesterday and hear a strong heart rate. After many prayers from family and friends and Gods amazing Grace we heard an incredibly strong heart beat. There were definitely tears at this point! So that brings us to 9 weeks or so and a due date of April 20, 2012.
Our doctor told us that the reason nothing was seen on the first ultrasound was because I was really just barely pregnant and not far along enough to see anything. Not as far as anyone had thought. My other symptoms were fluke. I believe this little one is a fighter and already speaks volumes about what he or she will be like. Around Thanksgiving we will be finding out whether we are having a boy or girl! I am so excited to experience this amazing miracle of growing and raising such a precious soul. All I can say is thank you God!
My next appointment is October 13. At that point I will be 13 weeks and into my second trimester. I intend on keeping everyone updated with ultrasound photos and baby bump photos as the time comes. Thank you to our family and close friends who have supported us every step of the way so far. Its time to let go and celebrate this amazing miracle! Here we go :)
